Exposure and bonding of impacted canine teeth

Sometimes teeth fail to erupt into their proper position in the mouth.  This is the case with many canine or "eye" teeth.  The orthodontist has brackets placed on all teeth but the ones that are stuck or impacted.  The orthodontist asks the oral surgeon to go underneath the gum and bond a special gold chain to the impacted canine tooth.  The orthodontist then can start gentle traction or pulling of the chain to encourage the impacted tooth to come to the proper position in the mouth.
